System-wide equalizer for Spotify and YouTube on Android – what really works
Many people want one equalizer for every app. On Android this is possible only in part, and it is better to know why before paying for any EQ app.
How system-wide equalizers work on Android
Android equalizer apps use the system's audio effects. They can reach other apps in two ways: through a device-wide (global) effect, if the phone allows it, or when a music app announces its audio session to equalizer apps. Whether either works depends on the phone model and the app.
Spotify
Spotify can hand its audio to equalizer apps on many phones (in Spotify's settings, the “Equalizer” option opens the phone's equalizer). Whether AUREL's system-wide mode affects Spotify on your phone is best checked during the free trial.
YouTube
YouTube is not affected by AUREL's system-wide mode. We say this up front so you do not buy AUREL for YouTube.
What AUREL offers
- A system-wide mode that applies the equalizer, bass, gain and limiter to apps the phone allows, with a small notification while active.
- A built-in player where the full 25-band effect always works on your own audio files.
- On most phones the system equalizer has fewer bands than AUREL's 25, so in system-wide mode the curve is smoothed.

Before you buy
- AUREL is installed from an APK file, not from Google Play. Android 9 or newer.
- It changes sound only. It is not a hearing aid. Keep the volume at a comfortable level.
